A Tribute to Paul Long
PAUL DAVID LONG SR. Born: May 9 1930 Died: September 2, 1998. Paul was the Senior Commander for a long time at Sweetwater Assembly of God Church,6090 Banbury street San Diego, Ca 92139. The last several years of Paul's Life he served as one of San Diego's Area Commanders, in fact he was considered to be, as we would say in F.C.F. a shining example as a Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Commander, and a Brother. What I noticed the most about Paul is that he loved the lord his family and the boys with all his heart. Many times, no every time I talked to Paul on the phone or in person he would always share with me about his Grand kids. he was so proud of them and loved them very much. It seems to me that Paul had a big influence on his Grand kids growing up.. . The last few years of Paul's life he was hurting physically, but Paul never asked to be waited on, in fact he was a better servant than then most of us. He was always there to help and encourage all of us. Paul's Van was kind of a Bus he was always giving rides to the boys to Campouts ,Rallies, and other Ranger events.. . Paul also believed in Prayer, ill end this with a little story about one of our F.C.F. campouts. Paul and I drove together to a Territorial campout up by San Luis Obispo which means we had to go through L.A. the campout was great in fact OLD HAWKEYE (Fred Deaver) was there as one of our guest speakers. I even had Ring Tail cut off my beard of 20 years. Old yellow Buffalo even gather up my beard and saved it. Bear Claw our chapter president had a mighty shinning camp. My oldest son Mike even drove all the way over from Lamore to stay for a half hour and tell me that he love me .Then took off for home cause he had to go to work the next day, so with saying all that yes it was a mighty fine campout.. . Well when the camp was over Paul, Yellow Buffalo, and I packed up and headed back to San Diego and on the way my old truck started dying on me, we had to stop every 5 or 10 minutes and let it rest I couldn't figure out what was happening .but all the time Paul was a praying I even said to Paul and Yellow Buffalo (Wayne L.) I don't think this old truck is going to make it. But Paul just kept on a praying. By the time we got to the out skirts of L.A. I was really scared and Paul was still a praying in fact he prayed us right through L.A. and right to my front yard. When we got home Paul looked at me with a smile and said see Bearwaller the Lord does answer prayer you sometimes just got to be persistent. . . I miss old Paul Long and wish he was still around to talk to, but all I can do now is wish him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY. and also Betty thank you for sharing your husband with us for all those years......
